Born 5-12-06 on a full moon  he came into the world with a bang.
His mom wandered the pasture with a swollen Vulva that morning and I
kept an eye on her from the house.
Not knowing when she was bred so I was unsure of when she would actual give birth
I kept watch.
As she paced the pasture I noticed she isolated herself from the other girls so
I was sure something was up.
Watching her from my office she started to circle the ground in one spot and I
saw a white bubble under her tail.
I grabbed my camera and out I went , capturing the whole birth in pictures.
(These were taken from a distance so as not to disturb here so some are a bit blurry and
my excitement did'nt help either:)
I have picked the best out of over 260 pictures to show you the process.
Hope they help you with what to watch for with any impending births you might have
or to just be able to see what happens.
The time span from the bubble appearing to the Cria laying on the ground seperate from her mother
is around 20 minutes.
Also note that she layed down for the birth and that is a bit different from most llama births
as they usually stand up , the cria falling to the ground.
So I was thrilled that she stayed down to give birth to this beautiful baby boy.
I hope that you enjoy the pictures .
